# Redlines

> Color a value on a table or a schematic when it passes a threshold.

A redline changes the background color of a value when the value passes a threshold. Use redlines to show an operator which values are near or outside their limits.

Redlines are available on [value cells](https://docs.synnaxlabs.com/reference/visualize/tables#value-cells) in tables and on value symbols in [schematics](https://docs.synnaxlabs.com/reference/visualize/schematics). A redline only changes the color of the value and notifies no one. To alert an operator, use an [Arc alarm](https://docs.synnaxlabs.com/reference/alarms/arc).

## Add a redline

1. Turn on editing for the table or the schematic.
2. Select the value cell or the value symbol, then press **V** to open the component toolbar.
3. Open the **Redline** tab. On a schematic, it is inside the **Properties** tab, next to **Telemetry** and **Style**.
4. Under **Bands**, click **Add band**.
5. Set the threshold and the color of the band.

Each new band starts one step above the highest band, in the warning color, then the error color.

## Bands

Each band has a threshold and a color. A band paints the values at or above its threshold (**≥**) and below the next higher threshold. Values below every threshold show the item at the bottom of the list: **No fill**, or **Fill** when you set a background on the **Style** tab.

For example, a pressure value has two bands: yellow at 500 and red at 600.

| Value | Color |
| ----- | ------ |
| 450 | Fill |
| 550 | Yellow |
| 650 | Red |

Two bands cannot have the same threshold; the Console marks them **Duplicate threshold**. To remove a band, click on the band.

To make a band blink between its color and the fill while the value is in it, click the flash button on the band.

## Transition

Under **Options**, **Transition** sets how the color changes between bands:

* **Steps** -> the color changes at each threshold.
* **Smooth** -> the color blends from the color of a band at its threshold to the color of the next band at the next threshold. The highest band is a solid color.
