Arrange panels and tabs

Create panels, open visualizations in tabs, and split, move, and focus tabs.

A panel is one arrangement of tabs in a project. Each tab shows one visualization, a task, or an Arc automation. Use panels to keep separate views, such as one for each operator or each phase of a test. The panel selector in the top bar of the Console shows the panels of the project.

Create and switch panels

To create a panel, click at the right of the panel selector. The Console opens a new panel named New panel.

To switch panels, click the name of a panel in the panel selector. To change the order of the panels, drag a name to a new position.

Rename and delete panels

To rename a panel, double-click its name in the panel selector. Type the new name, then press Enter.

To delete a panel:

  1. Right-click the panel in the panel selector.
  2. Select Delete.
  3. Click Delete to confirm.

Change the icon of a panel

  1. Right-click the panel in the panel selector.
  2. Select Change icon.
  3. Click a color swatch, then click one of the 64 icons. Type in the search field to find an icon by name.

You can also run the “Change panel icon” command for the selected panel. The color applies to the icon only, not to the name of the panel. The icon shows in the panel selector, in the projects toolbar, and in the Move to panel list.

Open a visualization in a tab

  1. Press Ctrl+T (Cmd+T on macOS), or click at the right of the tab bar. A Create component tab opens.
  2. Select Line plot, Schematic, Log, or Table.

The tab shows the new visualization. The list also has an item for each kind of task and for an Arc automation.

Split a tab

To show two tabs side by side, drag a tab to the edge of the panel. Drop it on the left, right, top, or bottom third of the panel.

You can also right-click a tab and select Split horizontally or Split vertically. These items show when the tab shares its pane with another tab.

Move a tab

To move a tab to a different panel, drag it onto the name of that panel in the panel selector. To pick where it lands, hold it over the name until the panel opens, then drop it in the panel. You can also right-click the tab and select Move to panel.

To move a tab to a new panel, drag it onto at the right of the panel selector.

Open a panel in a new window

  1. Right-click the panel in the panel selector.
  2. Select Open in new window.

The panel shows in a second window and stays in the main window too. Use this to put a panel on a second monitor.

To move one tab to its own window, right-click the tab and select Move to new window. The Console makes a new panel for the tab, named after it.

Windows are only available in the Console app and Synnax Desktop, not in a web browser.

Focus a tab

To make one tab fill the panel, right-click it and select Focus. To return, press Esc two times, or right-click the tab and select Exit focus.

On macOS, use Cmd where the table shows Ctrl.
